The Garden of Eden
Back to February
A driftwood sculpture garden by one of the local residents. The owner, quite old, told me that he has been putting this together for 30 years. During that time is neighbors often asked him why bother. He uses the cloud formations as his muse, then finds the driftwood on the beaches or out in the brush in the interior. In his yard he has papaya, coconut and sapodilla trees. He and the goat owner up the street from him are the only two that I have seen actively cultivating food in their yards.
Anyway, below each picture I have written what I see in the sculptures. Feast your eyes and imagine what is in the oieces of wood.
A woman from the shoulders down. |
Oneangry bird with a fish in its talons |
A ostrich with its head sticking out of the ground instead of in the ground? |
A serpent coiling to strike, or the yoke for an ox? |
A frog poised to leap off a stone. |
A bird just coming in to land on the rock. |
Just a beautiful piece of wood. |
Can you see a pelican scooping the conch shell into its maw? |
An octopus. |
In the foreground the head and neck of a dragon. In the background an egret or a serpent rising out of its basket to the sound of an Indian flute. |
